Paintballs are generally made out of gelatin and filled with water soluble dye. They also have seams where the gelatin is melted together.

There is no such thing as a perfect paintball. Paint generally changes during different temperatures and humidities. Paint should never be left in a car; not even in the boot, asthe heat will cause it to expand.

A good trick to maintain paint quality is to leave it in the airtight bag in which it is sold; this keeps out moisture. Then place it inside a coolbox, which will maintain it at a good temperature.

And as a final note, some people believe that frozen paintballs shoot better; however, this is unproven and dangerous.
